Michael Baston
- Vice-President, Student Affairs, LaGuardia Community College
When you sign on the dotted line for that student loan, you could very well be signing away your future, according to Michael Baston, vice-president, Student Affairs, LaGuardia Community College. Some students are graduating college with $100,000 debt which can impact on their ability to buy a home or even a car. Community colleges with nominal costs where you can get a two-year degree, basic requirements and be better prepared to enter a four year program are an excellent alternative for students. Many two-year programs prepare students for immediate careers such as nursing, paralegal and criminal justice employment. "We are the stepping stone, providing a solid foundation to get students from where they are to where they want to be," asserts Baston. LaGuardia has 50,000 students from 150 countries with 100 different languages. "We're the world's community college," says Baston. See if a community college is for you on Getting Your Money's Worth with Judith West.
