  • As with any normal piano (with a keyboard), the keyboardless piano in ANY automatic musical instrument should be tuned no less than twice a year, to compensate for climate changes.

Early instruments such as cylinder pianos, with wood frames, require more frequent tuning, especially if the instrument is frequently played.

This is a great arrangement despite the sound of the piano in this instrument! Thanks for taking this video!

  • [...] Ideally, this opening will be just slightly taller and wider (by about 1 foot) than the piano back, to allow for easy removal of it for tuning, while the orchestrion itself is still mounted to the wall. In fact, this opening could have a door in it to prevent tampering with the orchestrion by others while it is in use, and/or have vent holes in the door to allow the sound from the piano to escape and enter the passageway. This is also useful for miking the piano for recording purposes.

  • 2. In places with earthquakes (such as California) you can place the orchestrion in a custom-designed building with a small passageway or hallway behind the wall where the orchestrion stands. The instrument itself can be attached to the wall to prevent it from toppling over, but the wall does include a smaller, low opening sited just behind the piano back of the orchestrion.

  • OK here's what you do to avoid a constantly out-of-tune piano in a large orchestrion such as this:

    1. you can locate it at a distance (3 feet is good) from the wall behind it, so that the piano back, which is removable, can be wheeled back and easily tuned by a piano tuner. [...]

  • O dear, how I love the sound in this one! I wish I had one. This is sush a nice Retro sound.
