Here's a video of a 1 year old hearing girl at her 1st birthday party use sign language. This is an example of how sign language is quite beneficial for communicating between parents and their hearing child since the child's vocal cords and muscle are not yet ready to be used for speaking until about age 2 years old. Signing offer a way for hearing parents less frustration when the child wants sometime but is unable to communicate their needs or unable to respond to parents questions. Sign language is perfect for hearing babies up until about age 2 years old when they begin to start talking clearly.
