"The Sound of Motown TV Special" in April 1965 was a follow-up to "The Sound of Motown UK Concert Tour" the previous month, March 1965. "The Sound of Motown UK Concert Tour" did not receive the proper attention it deserved due mainly to the fact that the UK was unfamiliar with the unique and soulful rhythym & blues Motown Sound emanating from Hitsville, USA in Detroit, Michigan in the early 60s. However, Dusty Springfield, a British pop singer with her own unique and soulful sound was an occasional presenter on a weekly television show, Ready Steady Go!, was familiar with the unique Motown sound. (Smokey Robinson &) The Miracles (December 4, 1964), The Temptations and Little Stevie Wonder (March 12, 1965), (Smokey Robinson &) The Miracles and Martha & The Vandellas (March 19, 1965), and The Supremes (March 21, 1965) were introduced to the UK on the "Ready Steady Go!" weekly pop television show. Dusty Springfield was already a big fan of the Motown Sound and decided to help promote "The Sound of Motown TV Special" with the help of Vicki Wickam, a recording artist manager and producer of "Ready Steady Go!...The Weekend Starts Here" at Rediffusion Television Studios in London. "The Sound of Motown TV Special" was recorded at Rediffusion Television Studios on March 18, 1965. The performers promoting the Motown Sound were (Smokey Robinson&) The Miracles, The Supremes, The Temptations, Martha & The Vandellas, Marvin Gaye, Little Stevie Wonder, and Dusty Springfield with musical instrumentation accompaniment by The Earl Van Dyke Sextet (The Funk Brothers).

  • Niceee :)

  • ...Its such a damn shame that the comraderie and sheer joy and fun no longer seems to exsist in popular music today....the idea of acts " dissing' , etc each other was not even a thought...i envy those popular acts that came up in the 60's, etc...they knew how to have FUN....
