  • my grandfather was part of the first crew on this boat

  • @LostandFound03 if by "The Button" you mean the missile launch system, you got the wrong boat, SSN- 571 wasn't fitted to carry missiles or rockets, her only weapons were the 6 torpedo tubes in her bow, after all Nautilus was only a transitional technology, breaching the barrier between diesel boats and modern subs.

  • @cutdeamon Nautilus SSN 571 wasn't in WW2, it wasn't built until 1954, but there were a couple boats before her called Nautilus

  • As far as submarine history goes, I'm beginning to think that even the turtle had that white tile on its decking. probably still had to wax it too.

  • @cutdeamon wow i didnt know it was capable of time travel, it was made after the war....time travel sub :)

  • cool ! this sub sank four Jap aircraft carriers in WW2

  • @Robkat3751 Granted... I'm also a nub.

Not exactly the most salty of guys out there.

Just got used to calling mine (th Ohio) a boat a few weeks ago :)

  • @BlakeKilbourne you are a submarine sailor and you called the Nautilus a ship? Everyone knows that Submarines are boats.

  • @kvni1965 You ought to be proud of him, too! I'm a Submarine Sailor myself, and we don't talk about many ships nearly as much as the Nautilus - both the sip and her crew are famous! Hooyah!

  • It depends on the power source, if it was plutonium 238 its not so bad. That gives off alpha radiation that does not even penetrate a piece of paper. That same stuff was used in some deep space probes, it generates considerable heat.

Only when ingested it becomes a hazzard, it settles in your bones and screws up the body.
