  • Bobs Live version of this, that has been taken down, is in my opinion the greatest Live Performance by any artist anywhere.

Hopefully someday it will be re- posted and we can see once again his brilliance in action.

  • Thanks for posting this version of a fantastic song by a fantastic songwriter/singer.

  • One of the greatest Bob Dylan songs ever, in my opinion.

  • thank you for posting a quality original version! much appreciated.

  • aaaah... the personal. the first Bob's idiea of how he created the song, i think. Idiot wind... it's a wonder we could even feed ourselves. Yes, we are idiots, all of us. Thank you Bob for saying what no one else has said. You are my all time favorite, my star and my inspiration. Thank you!

  • The Minneapolis version (i.e. album version) is angry, electric and scathing - this version reveals a more vulnerable, regretful and personal side to Bob. I'm not surprised that he may have felt that left him a little exposed particularly given the level of attention and scrutiny that his divorce proceedings were getting at the time.

  • @MrJJQ How did he "lose his nerve"? Read the lyrics (album version): it's an angry, frustrated, ultimately sad poem. And the album version, that's exactly how his voice sounds. So angry, so completely disillusioned and at the end of his rope...this version sounds like a practice take to me. Well, we have different opinions, but to imply he somehow chickened-out by picking the version he did....what does that even mean?

  • It's interesting to listen to, but I way, way prefer the regular version. I don't know what the person who wrote Dylan "lost his nerve" is talking about. The album version is my all-time favorite song. Ever. This is great too, though. But the rancor in his voice on the original: perfection.
