Opening up a discussion and repair blog on the 3.4 Liter GM Engine. GM put these engines in a lot of their cars and minivans. They're relatively good engines after a few repairs. Problems, fixes, links to repair sites, open it up for whatever, feel free to post & comment.

  • My Alero is having power steering problems. I believe that the power steering pressure line is gone completely..i look where i think it suppose to be, near one of the pullys and it's not there. If i put one on there I won't know where the other end hooks into. Also, the battery is not staying charged at all..one i turn the car off it won't turn over anymore until I recharge the battery. Could that be the alternator? Thanks!

  • @teemac82 Take off the serpentine belt and take out the bolts holding on the power steering pump and reservouir. You'll get a better idea of where it's leaking or missing. It has 2 lines, one in and one out. Both go to the rack and pinion. If the battery isn't staying charged it could be the alternator, or it could be a bad battery. Test with a Volt meter and check for 14 volts with engine running. Most auto places will check it for free.

  • Coolant level is good..my car idles and it passes two lines after 1/2 and they still wont come on.what is the normal temperature whenever the car is at idle??.....do u know where is the temperature sensor is located in a 03 grand am 3.4

  • @Texasselling My 99 Alero's fan's don't come on until @3/4 way warm. A car isn't overheating unless it boils over. If you have antifreeze bubbling out the radiator because it's to hot, it's overheating. If not, it's fine. Besides, an engine runs more efficiently when it's warm.

  • I alrady checked the relays.i opened one up installed it with out the cover and I pressed my finger over it and the fans turn on but only that way.even if the car is shut off. I havent tried the temp sensor yet

  • @Texasselling @Texasselling The relay gets power all the time, your just completing the circuit. The temp sensor tells the computer when to engage the fan through the relay. Make sure to check fuses too. Check coolant level. What operating temp does it go to before the fan would kick on? Mine would go past 1/2 before the fans kicked on. Mine rarely ever turns on, but work.

  • I already pulled out the motor
