How to setup DVI to HDMI to play ps3 on your HDCP computer monitor.

I was looking for a guide about this when I was trying to set mine up and didn't find anything substantially helpful so I created this to try and help some people out. It's a pretty simple setup but some things just need a quick guide.

*NOTE* This does not work on NON-HDCP monitors.

I used a phono to female 1/8th inch adapter to connect the ps3 AV-Multi adapter to my pc speakers. Let me know if you have any questions about this setup.

@SBH95 No, this is a direct connection from PS3 to Monitor. You would need a Black Magic Intensity to capture gameplay footage.

does dvi cover sound too? cuz i am going to vegas soon, and i need my ps3 with me at all times :3 so i have an old monitor with 1280x sumtin res, and it should work, but what about sound? will i be able to get sound from the hdmi and dvi? no probs?

@endorphinmaster2pt0 No, DVI can't pass sound. You'll need to hookup your AV/MULTI out to your ps3 to pc speakers.

i have both hdmi and ddvi cable, will the dvi work by itself? because mine is a wire, not wireless

it says i have to change my setting to 1600x900 . i dont know how to do that when i have my ps3 hooked up.

i have a viewsonic VG710b and i use a monster HDMI to DVI and the monster goes up to 720p my monitor supports 1080p when i click yes on and my monitor doesnt show nothing and its hdcp any ideas?

dude i have HP W1707 monitor with DVI-D port and its HDCP capable . it has resolution of 1440X900. i did exactly same thing but when i select 'hdmi connection detected, do u wish to use hdmi connection' to yes, my CRT tv goes blank and nothing is displayed on lcd either.

i have tried HDMI to DVI cable as well but nothing worked. i am playing on my crappy 21" CRT TV and feeling like it was a big mistake to buy ps3 as i can't afford a full HD LCD yet. [pocket money is short]

@SBH95 use a laptop with hdmi support then download fraps (if you want commentary easily download something free other than audacity crashes WAY too much)
