Only in iPhone 4s and iPad 2 which support Mirror Function, so it can display anything to the Screen. But for others, it can not.

lol, iphone has to have all that to connect to hdmi.. lol, i just bought a $20 micro hdmi-standard hdmi cable for my droid. straight to the tv no adapter, usb cable to charge, or hdmi cable to go from the tv to the adapter.. & if your tv is new enough & supports media+net it'll charge your phone through it's powered port & you can use your remote to control it.
