One of Pärt's most well-known pieces of music. This is one of many arrangements he has done. This is most widely known for its use in the soundtrack of the movie "There will be blood" although it clearly existed long before the movie.

Violin: David Stein
Piano: Jasmin Arakawa

  • That is such an expression of beauty if beauty was something to be heard. I believe A Part is a genius - triadic chords and themes- kind of want Metallica to listen and use it

  • @peanutbd, I never thought of this style with reference to Metallica. That is a very cool idea! I bet that would kick butt!

  • I love how simply he creates the theme by adding 1 more ascending and descending notes every time. ex. 2 up 2 down. Then, 3 up 3 down. Then 4 up 4 down, gradually increasing volume and complexity in the accompanying harmonies. A monument of beauty through simplicity, albeit in a complex way. I absolutely love this piece. Brilliant!

  • the pairing of this piece with the image of Henry Hudson's sailing ship coming out of the fog is one of the great moments in film making.

  • This is a cosmic piece for me, out there, searching for something just out of reach. Very expressive, simple and profound harmonies. Was used to great affect at the beginning of episode 1 of New York A Documentary Film.

  • genius. profoundly spiritual music
