You may write a hook or simply a vertical stroke in 曰 (as in 書) or 日 (as in 智). Many Chinese like to write a hook in 曰 (as in 書) or 日 (as in 智) in their handwritings. Thanks.

Oh and I also noticed that you write the long, vertical stroke of 書 until you hit the 日 character. Is that a different? way of writing the character?

In brush calligraphy or handwriting, we may write the vertial stroke of 書 downward to the top of 日 or simply end at the horizontal stroke above 日.
There are some situations that we write strickly to avoid confusions, such as
已 (already)
巳 (the six of the twelve Earthly Branches)
己 (self)

Thank you. I noticed, that you did not write a hook in the | stroke of 日 in the first character. I thought it has to be a hook in this one.
