This is Peeper's 2nd session with the harness, and he rocked! I'll let you all watch it to see what happened.

  • Hi. I will be starting clicker training with my macaw soon.

I ordered a target training stick and clicker last night, and today I will be ordering the book "Getting Started: Clicker Training for Birds," by Melinda Johnson.

I need to work up to harness training.

Two questions: Why do you stop using the clicker at around 07:00 until the end of the video and what treats are you using?

    Thanks!

    Enjoyed your video!

  • Hi Terri (or Steve) - I dumped the clicker because it was getting to awkward to manipulate the harness and treats and clicker. Peepers already was clueing into what I wanted, and the delivery of the treat was close enough to the behavior that it gave him plenty of info all by itself. I was using almond bits. I get whole almonds and smash them with a hammer. Im glad you're enjoying this - Peepers is too :)

  • Did he ever learn to wear the harness? I am at the same stagevthat you were in you later videos and am stuck. Any hope?

  • Very beautiful bird and smart, too!

  • Thank you for the great video!!! I am going to try the same things on Harley as we watch! Again thanks!

  • Hi Jeni. Thanks for your reply. I am about to start clicker-training my greenwing macaw. I also need to harness train my boy and your video's are very helpful. I will continue to watch them.

Thanks so much for doing this!

    Terri

  • yay! Glad to see you dropped the clicker. Peepers don't need no clicker!! (slang on purpose). He clearly understands what you are asking.

He is happy to please (and get his yummy reward). LOL He is also so inquisitive.

    Go Peepers!
