Skills USA Open for the North Carolina State Competition

Tommy Hodges was asked to create a video open for the opening ceremony at the Koury Convention Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. The intention was to get the crowd of 2000+ students and teachers from all around the state pumped before the ceremony started. It worked. To make sure everyone enjoyed the video, he placed every county in the state of North Carolina in the video. The video was created using After Effects, Final Cut Express (which I hate), 2 photographs, and some video. The video was a hit at the competition. It is highly likely that he will be asked next year (2009) to make a new open to trump this one.

I will post the 2011 open this week. Thanks for the compliment. I personally was disappointed in the 2011 because I spent a long time animating lights that would have looked similar to what you see on the Fox Sports South cable network just before a Carolina Hurricanes game, but it never turned out exactly like I wanted it to - so it was scrapped at the last minute. I also created some animations that were taking too long to render so I had to remove them in order to meet the March deadline.

I allowed a group of students to work on the open this year so that they could put it on their resumes. However, the 2011 SkillsUSA open will be created by me and I am hoping it will be better than my first and second videos. I know it is a year away, but I am already planning for it.

The second song is BREATHE from The Prodigy. It is an English Techno band. This song was popular in the late 90s. MTV uses it a lot their various network shows.

AWESOME...im competing for the first year this year at Greensboro...residential wiring...nervous but im only a sophmore so still two years to go..by bro won first place last year in state in res. wiring..and continued to finish 13 at national..good luck to everybody this year..alexander county aint joking this year...BRINGING HOME SOME HARDWARE ! ! ! !
