They were laughed at for making drilling the CENTERPIECE of their energy platform.
Obama on the other hand talked many times during the campaign about being open to off-shore drilling as a temporary measure, a bridge to the clean energy future (which he's already made investments in such as the Recovery Act) and only in an environementally friendly way that the states would get behind. Obviously, that's out of the picture now.
