Brother David Steindl-Rast (www.gratefulness.org) talks about how different religious traditions have a common ground where they agree with each other -- like different doors leading to One room. He also talks about the original meaning of "Catholic."

This clip is from a film made by Luc Sala, www.mindlift.tv, of a series of talks by Brother David in October, 2007.

  • Wow, I am very pleasantly surprise to find more and more truly spiritual Christians that actually embrace love and compassion.

  • I love Brother David. I also don't let the Roman Church describe what is "Catholic" to me. God alone can do that.

  • What if we don't need any particular door to the room because there is no wall in the first place ?

  • Yes, this is the original meaning of catholic, and his comment about the roman church usurping the term "catholic" is a reflection of our relationship to language, to the word catholic. That word has no special importance- nor does christianity or sin or love or evil. People get confused sometimes about words- or perhaps we were already confused and words are an access to clarity.

  • In this meaning I have no more problems to be "catholic" !! :-)
