Here are the main games I played for the week of 10-25-2009

Early in the week I was looking a the large pile of PS2/PS3/GC/360/Xbox games that I had recently purchased, and I realized the everyone was a little too involved for me at the moment, so I broke out on a Snes/retro binge. That's what prompted me to create my 100 Sega Genesis / Snes games montage this week.

From that binge (minus one PS2 game, and the 100 games I took footage of from the vid), these are the main games I played this week:

G.I. Joe (Nes)-

I played this one last night actually, and it's still one of my favorite Nes games of all time. It's got all the elements that made sidescrolling NES games so great.

Awesome gameplay, control, and soundtrack. Speaking of the soundtrack, don't adjust your speakers. The NES only has two slots for RCA wires, and one is for video, and the other for audio, so you'll only be hearing one side of your speakers during the clip.

Anyways, great game. I was checking on amazon, and even a used copy of the game will cost you about $20 which seems a little steep, but for such a great game, it's worth it for those interested.

Ninja Warriors (Snes)-

I uploaded some footage of this one as an underrated gem, and it's just a good old fashioned side scroller beat 'em up. My biggest complaint is the lack of two players.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein (PS2)-

I bought this version on a recommendation from Youtube user elbryan42. I already had the Xbox version, but his one adds some cool stat building elements tot he play. Instead og just getting a pat on the back for finding all the secrets, you actually get points that you can then use to buy attributes for your character like more life, armor, or more ammo. You can also buy useful items.

The controls in the game are completely customizable which is great. I'm playing it on the hardest difficulty (like I did in the Xbox port), and it'll definitely give you some good challenge.

The only thing is, I had to turn the auto aim off, because it effected my ability to go for headshots, because it'd always target the body. And I'm not a fan of auto aim.

Skyblazer (Snes)-

I also uploaded this as an underrated gem this week, but I beat it for the first time this week.

I just noticed something funny about this game. It was published by Sony Imagesoft, and the password system uses a Triangle, a Circle, a Square, and an "X". Kinda prophetic don't you think?

  • what game was the "the End" picture from?

  • Castlevania: Bloodlines on the Sega Genesis.

  • Ever played Wild Guns or Shien's Revenge? Both are on SNES. Curious what you think about those.

  • I haven't played either, but I've wanted to try Wild Guns since the HVGN did a vid on it. However, it's rather expensive for a Snes game.

As for Shien's Revenge, I'll have to look into it.

  • Does the PC version of RtCW have stat building, or is it exclusive to the PS2 version? It sounds interesting

  • Honestly, I'm not sure. It's weird, but I don't own the PC version as of yet.

Sometimes I go backwards like that. I get the console ports before I get the original PC version. I guess it's just because the console ports are the easier of the two to find for me.

  • I love the background

  • Wow, Wolfenstein (sp?) still looks great. I totally forgot, in some old shooter games, you didn't have to press a button to pick up ammo (it was automatic).

Too bad they took out that feature in newer shooters. Oh well.

  • lol :54 @ stabbing the snow mobile with a knife and it explodes.

  • Ninja Warriors look good, and nice retro commercial at the end

  • Awesome games! :)

Never played Sky Blazer before. Looks like I'll have to hunt it down.
