Todd Friel discusses what repent means. It is a brokeness over sin, a Godly sorrow that leads to true
repentance. Another kind of repentance includes one where the sinner is only concerned about the
consequences of the sin such as Essau and Judas. Todd brought up the Greek definitions of the two kinds of repentance and gave examples of them.
2 Corinthians 7, 1 John 3:8-9

  • @Jcross005 yes right on the money!!! put your trust and repent,,but that is not what Ray comfort and Fred teach, they teach u have to stop sinning first before God will except you ,,they teach you have to turn first from your sin and then trust,>> And i know you can still ask Jesus into your heart and never get saved alot of people do it out of pressure or because they dont want to hurt your feelings, so they ask Jesus into their heart and never mean it ,,you will know a christian by their fruit

  • @Jcross005 BTW, Happy New Years!

  • @dellryan49 The Bible says, Demons believe and tremble. And certainly they are not going to heaven. Jesus alone saves us, but only when we are humble and put our trust completely in him. The Bible says, God rejects the proud, but gives grace to the humble. If I come to Christ on my terms wanting Hell Insurance, but not willing to part with my sin. How is that humility. People want the gift of God, but not God, because it means they have to give things up. I call this a false conversion.

  • @dellryan49 The point is look up the word "repent" in a concordance. In the NT it is mentioned some 30 times. I don't believe you must repent first and then trust. I believe when you truly put your trust in Jesus Christ and him alone, repentance-that heart attitude of humility, brokenness, and a new desire to turn from sin and to seek God will abound. Trust and repentance are two sides of the same coin. To ask Jesus into your heart but have no desire to change or apologize is lip service.

  • The Gospel is simple, why does Jesus, Peter, and others in the book of Acts when proclaiming the gospel use the word repent. I agree that repentance is not a work, it is simply a heart attitude that leads to real change. Lots of false converts say the sinner's prayer when they are little, and grow up and could care less about God, church, or the lost. (yet their Christians because they wrote it down in the back of their bible they never care to open) James 2 faith with out works is dead.

  • @Jcross005 ,People try to complicate the gospel, because they dont believe it can be that simple ,Romans 10:9 if you confess with your mouth "Jesus is Lord" and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead you will be saved,,,you put your trust in Jesus and make decision to follow him he will give you a new heart with new desires,,we are not going to be sinless, but we certainly can sin less read Rom,7:13,25 and tell me what u think paul is saying,, Happy New Year

  • @dellryan49 Layout the doctrine of salvation for me according to scripture. Are you trying to say. All someone has to do is ask Jesus into their heart, confess their sin, and believe. What if their works never back up their claim, what if they weren't sorry for their sin? What if they molested children after their "conversion" but said they believed. Are they saved without repentance at all? Truly?

  • @Jcross005 these guys are teaching that you have to do something physically first which is stop sinning, well if your laying on your death bed,,you can stop sins in your heart ex.hate is same is murder lust, adultery, but what about the other sin such as living in sin if your living with your girlfriend as ONE you are living in sin, to stop that sin,you have to move out ,how do you do that on your deathbed with 15 seconds to live?

  • @dellryan49 This is why the church is full of false converts! People get saved all the time on their deathbed, but God looks at their heart and sees their sincerity. Have you ever apologized to someone and not meant it. It's called lipservice and that is not going to cut it with God. So many "believers" give God lipservice and not their life. They are false converts. That is where repentance comes into play. You can trust and not be sorry. The correct term is "repentant faith".

  • @dellryan49 Its like a man who commits adultery on his wife, and then wants to reconcile and make things better. He decides to apologize, but brings along his girlfriend to the apology. That's ridiculous!! But so many people come to Christ for Hell insurance and are not willing to part ways with their sin. Christ does not accept this apology and they "ask him into their heart" but he never moves in. Why not? They love the gift more than the giver of the gift. They have not repented.
