The El Mozote Massacre took place in the village of El Mozote on December 11, 1981, when Salvadoran armed forces killed at least 1000 civilians. It is reputed to be the worst such atrocity in modern Latin American history.
Most of the campesinos didn't even know how to read. So they couldn't have had any real knowledge about what communism was about. The lies were mostly fabricated in Washington to invade Nicaragua. I recommend a book by Larry Towell called Somoza's Last Stand. It will give you some understanding about what happened in the region during the 80's. There are plenty of books about this subject.
I'm reading a book called The Massacre at El Mozote. This is my second time reading it; eventhough the chapter about the massacre is tough to stomach. It such a sad history but I'm glad that the other side of the story is slowly being exposed. My parents write off the people from El Mozote as all being communist. I would have never heard the real story from them.
All of this took place thanks to millions of dollars sent by the reagan administration....i lived all this,n when you are a child u cant understand why the goverment forces would kill inocent people....now i do. Capitalist from here did want the left to rule...20 years after all this, FMLN lead by funes, got the chance to make a difference.
Such a shame this happened. It's not surprising that when this massacre first took place, it wasn't just the Salvadorian junta that denied it, but also the Reagan administration.

yes I know. But it is something that plagues not only the Mexican culture but most of Latin America.

la maldicion de malinche. What did El Salvador do 20 years later? They sent troops to Iraq for operation Iraqi Freedom.
