Three reasons rats make great pets

In November 2010, United Animal Nations (UAN) ran a temporary shelter in San Jose, California for approximately 1,000 domestic rats removed from an overrun home in Los Angeles County.

The rats were removed from the home by a team from A&E's Hoarders show, The Humane Society of the United States and North Star Rescue, a San Francisco Bay Area group specializing in small animal rescue. They were transported them to a temporary shelter at Andy's Pet Shop in San Jose and will be made available for adoption.

In this video, UAN volunteer Maggie Galvin explains why domestic rats make such great household pets.

Evolutionary speaking, rats are more similar to humans than cats or dogs.What many humans do to rats is discrimination.

So true! I used to have two rats (they have passed on). They are the most amazing pets! Most people do not realize how loyal, sweet, and affectionate they are. They take just a little bit of care and give back so much.

@TrueBlueCanuck Not these rats. These rats aren't street rats, these rats are sweet, smart and incredibly clean rats. Dogs carry far more diseases than pet rats. Get your facts right and learn to spell.
