@jrichardson4mvp Being "loosely rooted in the pop sphere" has little to do with the band themselves - it's just where critics tend to place them. I don't see any pretentiousness in terms of Godspeed's approach to songwriting as a whole. That being said, I won't deny that I see a lot of unwarranted self-importance in a lot of "post-rock" outfits these days.

@davethehostage I generally agree with you, but I think it's also easy to sympathise with those who decide 'post-rock' (sorry) and its exponents are doing something pretentious; there is, after all, often a fine line between invention and pretension (was that naff, unintended rhyme pretentious? 'Let me know in the comments below!'). GSY!BE are still loosely rooted in the pop sphere (listeners and critics enjoy them on those terms) which I think lends them a certain pretentiousness at times. xoxo

hi. I'm more so a member of the VC on here. just stumbled onto yer videos. good overview on the GYBE. To me, it's essentially an orchestral punk rock record. Indeed a classic!

I've noticed that on most of your videos you always start laughing. It's like the Anthony Fantano "Seal of Approval".

I was introduced to this band when "28 Days Later" was released. Ever since then, I've been a fan. I don't think Danny Boyle could have picked a better band to fit the apocalyptic mood of that film.
