Twenty-three hundred years ago, traders traveling to China were preyed upon by Nabatean raiders from the hidden city of Petra. There was only a single deep, narrow pass into the city, running for a mile through the mountain and surrounded by high walls--attackers were easily repelled. The massive temples shown were Royal burial tombs.
