LOT OF POSITIVE DEVELOPMENT HAS TAKEN PLACE IN SRI LANKA -- ROBERT BLAKE

US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Robert Blake is astonished over the progress achieved by Sri Lanka than in May 2009, when he left the island. He said he had witnessed the progress in the protection of human rights during his visit to the North. The island's economic growth is also significant.

Robert Blake was addressing newsmen in Colombo today. He said he was glad to meet his old friends during the visit. The US diplomat further addressing journalists said that a lot of positive development has taken place in Sri Lanka since the end of the war in 2009. Further addressing newsmen the end of his 3 day tour of Sri Lanka, he stated that Sri Lanka had changed in to a different country since he left the island at the end of his tenure as the Ambassador to Sri Lanka in May 2009.
The U.S. Assistant Secretary of State said the resettlement of most of the IDP's following the completion of de-mining activities and the conduct of Local Council Elections in the North were some of the changes that had taken place. He further said that the improvement of infrastructure in the North and rehabilitation and release of more than 8,000 ex-combatants were also some of the changes that had taken place. But Robert Blake noted that there was still a great deal to be done with regards to healing the wounds of war and ensure that a peaceful and prosperous Sri Lanka.
The US diplomat pointed out that he was pleased to hear from both the government and the TNA regarding the resumption of important dialogue on devolution and other matters.
