The 2010 Rusty Rails team at the Rakis Tunnel on the Tokarahi Branch. The branch closed 14 July 1930.

  • The other tunnel was flooded at the eastern end. We walked through from the west as far as the water. We were there as part of our annual Rusty Rails trip. Google nz-rail-geography for information. If you are interested in ghost railways in NZ this is the group for you.

  • I remember checking out this and the other tunnel probably around 20 years ago, one was flooded from memory, I think I recall birds may have been living in it, but I may be mistaken.
