Just a tip. I couldn't successfully print anything so I ordered the kit and used an entire 1k spool of filament to finally get a good print of the parts needed. Then I found out that the parts come printed with the kit. I appreciate that the kit included the parts printed already (logical being that some people can't print without the upgrade) but it would have been nice to know that the printed part come with the kit. That would have saved me hours of frustration and $40+ of filament.

    Hi Michael,

Not sure exactly what happened there, but the kit advertised on the store is just that- the hardware kit. The printed parts do not normally come included in the kit.

I actually ordered two (In the process of getting another Rep 2) and both came with red printed parts. Not that I'm complaining it makes sense to include the parts especially if people are having problems printing successfully. I just want everyone to know that I did get the parts with the hardware and don't waste time trying to print them until the order is delivered. :)

As I said, the kit should not be shipping with the printed parts, and if it was that was a (in your case happy) mistake.

You should be sending this out to all Replicator2 owners for free.

Instead you are offer just a design (that requires a working printer to print) and charging $8 for $1 worth of hardware.

You guys are still pretending this machine works out of the box.

I have 2 Replicator2's and neither functioned correctly without this upgrade.

I spent $30 each to procure these parts from an independent vendor months before you acknowledged this fix.

Ignoring known serial defects is bad for business.

We're aware that finding the right amount of plunger tension can be kind of tricky, but the majority of our customers have had no issues with their extruders. For those who want another solution to the plunger, but are still about to print, we offer the .stls posted and the hardware kit. For people who really need a hand, they're welcome to open a ticket and we'd be happy to explore other options.

credit is one thing, compensation is another. If it were not for the user who originally posted this on thingiverse and received thousands of downloads of the part to make you guys notice, you would have never done anything about it. It's his design even though it was derived from his. He should be compensated in some way.

My Replicator 2 worked fine out of the box and has over 200+ hrs of print time. The plunger is hardly a 'serial' defect. It's unfortunate that yours was defective, and I agree that it is makerbot's responsibility to make sure every paying customer has a working unit, but just because yours didn't work out of the box doesn't mean everyone's didn't.

It isn't advertised that way on the makerbot store website. It looks like you are just buying the hardware.
