Reaction: Obama orders troop surge in Afghanistan

President Obama is scheduled to deliver a televised address tonight in which hes expected to announce a troop increase of about 30,000 in Afghanistan. Will you watch the Presidents speech? Do you believe the Presidents address will help to rally support for the war? In addition to talking about the expected troop surge, should the President also discuss an exit strategy tonight?

quality, all Muslims don't love OBL or love the Taliban. You really need to remember Ockham's Razor. Basically, don't look for complicated answers when simple ones will explain the facts. OBL has been a thorn in the side for years (ie Clinton) and no wars were launched. If OBL was a CIA stooge, why would we not have gone to war sooner if that was the whole idea behind him?

quality, my argument is this: we've got the object cornered, and we want to make sure we don't lose him. We have allies (and apparently a few turncoats as it would turn out later) who know the area and should be able to snag OBL. It's perfectly logical to think that it is superior to use the locals instead of making it an exclusively US operation with US forces who aren't as familiar with the area.

What I know about the terror war is truth. You ought to reconsider your position on this.

quality, did you not just say you had no proof? About Tora Bora, it was thought to be better to use locals who knew the area. Now we know better, but it could have easily went the other way. Then the attack would be, "We did we not use the locals instead of going in like cowboys to get OBL? Bush obviously let OBL go."

quality, if you've no proof, it would be wise to re-examine the position. The Tora Bora report is Monday morning quarterbacking at best. It was thought that using locals who were familiar with the area around Tora Boara to nail OBL was wiser than trying to do it all on our own. I don't believe Bush would have allowed OBL to escape given it would be a tremendous political boon to have OBL's scalp.

As to lax security, bureaucracies are notorious for incompetence.
