SMC Professor Hisham Ahmed on the U.S. Troop Surge in Afghanistan

Hisham Ahmed, Ph.D. Saint Mary's College professor of politics, is a leading authority on Islamic movements in particular the Palestinian group Hamas and is able to speak broadly about politics in the Middle East.

Ahmed says if President Obama only relies on sending more troops to Afghanistan, the planned surge to win the war there could backfire and end up helping the terrorist group Al Queda. In the accompanying video clip Ahmed explains that the U.S. needs to mount a massive reconstruction program in the country, similar to the US efforts in Germany after World War II.
