These video clips were taken during a bowling clinic session by Robert Smith at Hong Kong Bowling City in Oct 2009. This is an original video never published before. Enjoy!

  • @MrThinroyy In typical shots, Belmo, Osku and Robert have about the same rev rate which is 550-650rpms. Robert can bring it up to 700+ at highest but Belmo once threw a 1200rpm shot. Don't know about Osku though, he seems to prefer more ball speed with lower revs and throw it kinda straight.

  • @jaitock1991 Because wikipedia is written by people who don't always know what they're talking about...Belmo and Osku rip through the ball with probably a good 150-200 more revs than Robert

  • It really looks like something anyone could do but believe me it is quite difficult. It requires a strong wrist, great timing and a loose armswing.

  • He does have more revs, but not like he use to. Bak in the day he had more revs than any 1 hander or 2 hander

  • What? With all the respect, but there is nooo way that release of Robert's is able to create more revs than Belmo or Osku!! No way!! So why does the article on wikipedia say so? Someone please tell me!!

  • it's funny how almost all the advice i've seen lately says something about keeping the wrist straight, but i clearly see a snapping of the wrist with mr. smith here. interesting to see the difference between words and actions here.

  • Mike Fagan does indeed use sarge Easter. A good two inches worth of it. Robert Smith has gone in between conventional and sarge Easter multiple times. However currently he is using conventional, in combination with lengthy drillings.

  • @SuperTeremus Yeah, im a new bowler so i didnt know much about Sarge Easter, but then i was watching a match with Michael Fagan ( i believe he also uses Sarge Easter?) and the commentors said something about the grip slows down his RPM. Has robert smith gone conventional though? The last few years i've watched on youtube of him bowling he seems to have gone to the conventional finger-tip drilling.

  • @iwasadeum Actually that is how he slows down his RPM. The drilling is called Sarge Easter. It's where the ring finger is an inch or so lower than the middle finger. It allows him to take some lift out his release, but maintain his amount of cup and hand. Sarge Easter is used by almost all crankers except for tommy jones and wes malott. Check out a ball drilled by Mike Fagan or Robert Smith, they're the same, although mike fagans ring finger is almost 2 inches lower.

  • He has an excellent release almost the same as Wes's. He does not have a unconventional drill type. It's a plain ole fingertip ball drilled to him, first knuckle on both fingers. He does bend his elbow on the down swing, but if you you look at all the crankers they all do it. It's to max the rev's. But if you look at the elbow at release it's straight again. ..... Love the videos! Keep them coming. Thanks .
