This is a requested video for how I prepped my prefold diapers (and burp cloths) for use. Prepping them makes them more absorbent. I ran them through one wash and dry cycle after this. I said the in the video that I would just dry them, but I decided to go ahead and wash them once to make sure they didn't have any residue left on them from sitting in the pot.

If you have any questions, let me know! Thanks for watching :)

  • Should I do this with my BG burp cloth? And the econobum prefolds?? Is this the same as washing them 5-10 before use? Damn, I washed all of my cloth diapers (the grovias) so far about 7 times!

  • @crunch103 I would definitely prep prefolds this way as it's so much easier. Do not boil anything with elastic or snaps though. Any diaper that is just PUL and man made fibers like microfiber, you only need to run through one wash and dry cycle. If you have something that is natural fibers like hemp or bamboo, you wash it multiple times (otherwise it's not necessary).

  • do you suggest a certain type of diaper safe detergent?

  • @waitingtobeblessed I bought Crunchy Clean to use. I have really hard water and the hard water formula of that brand was recommend me to by several other cloth moms. I also really liked supporting her as a work at home mom and her daughter has some health issues.

  • Did you buy any of the orange edge/newborn size prefolds as well? I was just wondering if I should purchase them or skip to the yellow edge instead. This is baby #2 for me and my first was 8lbs. I'm wondering if this one will be bigger since I look so huge at just 20wks...lol!

  • @jazmin3297 I have 2 dozen of the orange edge that I bought used, so they were already prepped. I debated for a while about whether or not to get both sizes, but a lot of people said that the orange edge really just fits better at first. You can use the yellow edge and just fold down the rise, but they'll likely be pretty bulky. (I only got 1 dozen yellow edge to use as a filler between newborn and the time that my entire one size stash fits.)

  • @alexlovescherylx Exclusively breast fed poo is water soluble and antibacterial actually. Once a baby starts solids, there are attachments you can hook to your toilet to rinse the diapers (like a shower head) before throwing them in the wash. Babies in disposable diapers get poo all over their clothes all the time- what do people do with those clothes? It's the same thing. I'm not grossed out by it in the least.

  • @TheGenni23 They're the unbleached prefolds, so they were that color before.

  • Thanks for the video! I prepped my newborn ones by washing them 7 times, drying them in-between, but now that I have to do my regular ones I wanted to see if there was a better way! I'm glad there is, and I can save on all that water and gas. :))

  • @plus1please thank you! I will check it out in hopes that I will use it for the future :)

  • Loved this! I just bought a huge pack of pre-folds and did exactly what you said in this video! Thanks for the help Kelsey (:

  • Great tip. I never would have thought of prepping that way.
