Mehmet Ali Talat and Dimitris Christofias, the respective Turkish and Greek Cypriot leaders, have held a series of meetings in a bid to reach an agreement on reunification for the divided island.

Analysts say that Cyprus is the closest it has ever been to reaching a settlement.

Al Jazeera spoke to two Cypriots, one Greek and one Turkish, to see how close they felt their leaders were to reaching an agreement.

  • Where did she say that lives? Noth rebublic of Cyprus? ( FAKE REBUBLIC )

    Only in your dreams.

  • 50 / 50?

The Greek Cypriots are the 80% of the population while the Turkish Cypriots are only 10-15 %!

Turkish Cypriots are not the only minority!

We have Armenians and Maronites too but they dont think themselves as foreign nor to we! They are CYPRIOTS! When Turkish Cypriots understand that then we will have a solution!

You are the ones who devided the island and you are the ones who have to realize that you need to stop this facade and reunite with the rest of the population!

  • ''i dont think everyone wants to get their land back''??? fuck you get out of our country and the ''Turkish republic of Northern Cyprus'' does not exist

  • @alexchron - I have also been told this by a GC living i Cyprus that many no longer want their land/property back and would be happy with compensation. Surely having their right recognised is what's important and unfortunately it may not be practical nor possible to returns everyones property/land should they prefer that option. I'm not saying that is right, but it's reality.

  • @turkeren damn you asshole cyprus for cipriots not for turks not for greeks who give a shit what was before we talk about now you got?

  • WHO THE FUCK DOESN'T WANT THEIR LAND BACK BITCH? THIS SHITTY VIDEO REPRESENTS EXACTLY HOW DEMANDING TURKISH PEOPLE ARE AND HOW BRAINWASHED THE LEFT WING GREEK CYPRIOTS ARE INTO COMPROMISING EVERY HUMAN RIGHT AND EVERY IDEAL IN THE NAME OF THE SO-CALLED WE ARE BEING OFFERED

  • THERE IS NO TURKISH republic of northern cyprus! It is a pseudo-state.

  • Who says that Greeks and Turks can't live together, that's nonsense! I pity any fool's intelligence who would claim such a thing. There are thousands of Greeks living in Turkey as of this moment, and they've been living there for centuries. Vice versa, Turks are are living in Greece, and have been for a very long time. How come? Because it's possible, so can the people of Cyprus live together, they only have to believe. Don't be a pawn in other countries' plans of dividing the island.

  • @hknskr

    Funny but no!

I am saying that the power should not be given to the few. Its basic democracy.

And you did import thousands of Turks already in the captured half island but they will leave when the solution is found because they dont belong there! They are not Cypriots...they are Turks that live in my grandmothers and grandfathers houses, go to our schools, bathe in our seas and destroying our churches!

Sorry for the tone but your humor in your post caused it!

  • @LinkSoul2 So are you saying we should import more Turks to the island to have an equal power sharing? No problem :-) There are 80 million of them nearby.
