Heavy Duty Differential, my experimental creation.

During my experiment with LEGO genuine differential gear, I had some uneasy experience as follows.
When high torque such as two XL motor with full power is applied to the
thin 12-tooth gear inside of differential body, the 12-t gear generally break down .
For example, if you connect two XL motor and try to seize the differential body with your hand
so that it cannot rotate, you will get a broken thin 12-t gear(I recomment not to try)

MOC Heavy Duty Differential has no thin element and endures 2 XL motor with full torque.
Large gear at the differential body came from turntable(disassembled).

  • Also, i wanted to ask you, how did you take apart the turntable?

  • @v4trogaSci

At first, I also had some fear about taking apart the turntable. A friend of mine told me it is quite simple and easy. No tool was needed and I disassembled it by my hand. Try it : )

  • Are there any pictures of this on brickshelf?

  • @v4trogaSci

My Brickshelf ID is sunsky and you can see some photos.

And, this HDD was introduced in the TechnicBRICKs forum. You can search with keyword 'sunsky' or 'Jaeho'

(I tried to make a URL link here, but I have failed)

  • Great work. I'm just wondering what you are going to use it for...

  • It is very sturdy and I am satisfied especially for that feature.

While two XL motors are running, I tested to grap the big gear(differential body) to stop. No part has gone away, get broken, or get loose. The hand felt a little hot due to the high torque of dual XL motor.

This module is rather big. Not suitable for 'normal' sized car or something.

Maybe for some BIG creation in the future, this module could be good :)

  • I can imagine the dial battery box being used in conjunction with a rotational clutch and gearbox (maybe) for a smooth automatic gearshift for large RC vehicles.

  • @sunmint1 mine just felt apart

  • very good

  • where can i buy the gray square for the differential body?

  • can you tell me how you make the tuntable

  • can you tell me the item numbers for the big black gear and the gray thing?

  • please make instructions for this

  • I made one based off of yours today with a few different pieces for the body and I tested it and its really strong. I only had two wheels that were big enough for it though, so I made a dragster. Thanks for sharing :P

  • ..I am sorry but that has got to be one of the coolest things I have seen in a while! I love my truck...I've worked on a differential..I have seen them turn..but never seen someone build one out of lego and make it work almost exactly like a positraction differential...A+!

  • woo that is just so great idea, thumbs up for the video!(not my comment)
