ATV Ride Hillsville PA Part II (Sand Dunes, Man Trail) April 2011

Ever have one of those places that's not legal to ride, but everyone goes there without a problem? This is one of those. I talked to a bunch of locals when we got there and the consensus is someone died in one of the quarry lakes in about 2008 and the cops were around then, but haven't been seen there since. Great parking withing the property, out of sight from the street, something for everyone from mud to hill climbs to sand dunes to water crossings, and the nicest people I've met anywhere. I can't say anything bad about this place. Everyone was polite, cautious for safety, even cleaned up after themselves. Sure, there were some people drinking and not wearing helmets. But, I didn't see anything I would regard as reckless due to drinking (some of those hill climb guys are insane without alcohol).

I beasted those hills at 13:30on my 450r last week. Glad to see someone else sucked it up and took the man trail.

@DMCDerik No doubt buddy. Awesome trail, and I was riding it on a Rancher 420! haha Had a buddy out there with a Rhino tearin it up too. That was funny to watch. He did really good with it though!

I Go Out Heir Alot The Last Time I Was Their Last Week And Was Fine And We Were Suposed To Go The Next Day But Then Their Had Been The Robberies And Shooting So It's Best To stay Out Of Their For A Month Or Two Because They Stolen My Friends Bike , Put A Gun In His Back And Took It.

@reesenicastro No shit? I wanted to stay there overnight in a tent sometime but that place just seemed like such a no man's land that if something did happen like getting robbed, you'd be on your own. Hope everyone is ok and they get his quad back. Take care bud!

someone died there? please. many people have died at hillsville- most of them ignoring trails and plunging to their deaths- even in cars. back in the 60's and 70's many of the larger pits were still there- open and empty. people got hurt and many died from falling. my dad used to take my brothers and me shooting in the south pits near the water tower in the 60's. my gramps worked there running trains for CL/USS. cops want to make everything seem dangerous to help justify their existence........

@swimmerB0B Thanks for some history. Well said, too. I wasn't implying only one person has died there, just speaking of the most recent one that anyone told me about. I heard about some cars in the bottom of a few pits. I have to agree on the cops too; looking for job security. Do you still go out there ever?
