I will show you how you can build a really cheap and simple DIY sharpening jig for shop grinders, to sharpen your woodturning chisels and any other woodworking chizels fast and far better than using the crappy tool rests that grinders come with. A great addition to any shop grinder that does not already have one and costs much less than buying one.

  • Yet again, a great video. What make and model is the grinder? Looks like an Axminster...

  • @caravanuser

Yes it is from axminster, can't remember what model it is but you should be able to find iit on thier site.

  • This video was actually extremely helpful. How old is this kid? and How long has he been working on a lathe?

  • @KKonundrum1

Hi there, im 15 and i would probably say that i have been working on the lathe for the last 3 years but only really well and perfecting my technique in the last 6 months.

Thanks for watching, be sure to check out my other videos,

    Alex.

  • Really nice jig. Where do you get the wide grinding stone?

  • @MrLeonard55

This grindstone actually came with the jig, but i think it can be bought from axminster.co.uk

  • Excellent video !!! No background noise, so we could understand you clearly , the camera is on a stand so there is absolutely no shaking, which makes us want to keep watching. Your detailed demonstration makes for a informative lesson. Very impressive !!! Thank you for uploading.

  • Videos like this one make youTube the brilliant resource that it is! Great job, thanks.

  • I'm a time served Joiner with over 35 years experience so consider myself qualified to tell you that your jig is excellent. I have made one and had excellent results. Thanks. Les.

  • Nice job. Now that I see how easy it is to make one I'm going to try it. Thanks.

  • thank you kid, i was wondering how to build a jig instead of paying 80.00 for a wolverine jig. you now your homework.

  • @TeenWoodworker your sorry ? tell the wanker to fuck off !

  • OK, Thanks and i'll have your wood in the mail this week.

  • @basher50

I'm sorry you see it that way, i have seen that film and although he has also made movie on this it is based on a jig you can actually buy.

  • Very simple and effective. If you dont mind ilmake a suggestion that may help. when you have found the correct stting for a particular chisel you could mark the jig. maybe a line by the black tightener. next to the line "3/4 gouge" etc. one mark for each chisel. please be careful when using the abrasive cloth, made me wince when you did that, wrap it round a short length of dowel, wouldnt want you to get injured and stop posting your vids :)

  • Hi Alex, Thanks for your reply. Will make one when / if I ever I get my my workshop back again.

    Keep working. Best regards, Tom.

  • @govangadjie47

Just a routing error, doesnt do any harm so i left it like that, probably should have mentioned that in the video.

    Alex

  • Well done, another good bit of advice. I had noticed you had not posted for some time and wondered if you had lost interest ( or found another like girls Ha Ha ). Nice to see you are still working away. I am having a Garage built with a workshop on the end so all my tools etc are in my house but I have been trawling you tube and the net to find out as much as i can re layouts, gigs, storage, etc. One Question. Why is the sliding slot cut off centre ?

Keep up the good work. Best regards, Tom

  • looks handy thanks

  • Good one. Thanks.
