i figured it out.. you need quicktime and you need to update it to the latest version.

When i'm trying to import a file, there just saids "After Effects error: File (******.mov) cannot be opened, it may be an unsupported format.
Please help, me out here!!!

omg i love you!!! i have to have a major assignment in, in today and you just saved my life, i just up graded to cs5 since i needed the rotoscope brush and other things and i ran into this problem when trying to import my footage and AE2, im so thankful to you, but if someone is still having trouble try to exit AE and install the latest QT and set it to default fo .mov files and then reopen AE and everything sure be good, thanks again :)

this still didnt work , when i go to import them, it says ' After effects error: 'Leaf Sprout.mov' canno be imported ----- this '.mov' file is damaged or unsupported. and it doesnt just do it for one, it says that for all of them?

Try downloading quicktime player. I think you can't support the .mov files. Quicktime player will handle this problem.

mine simply doesnt work when i drag in ae nothing comes up or when i simply just try and play it on windows media player coz thats the file it says "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The file is either corrupt or the Player does not support the format you are trying to play"
