  • The more I hear of Marin Marais the more I like his work, especially when it features a viola da gamba, a favourite of mine along with the cello. Thanks for posting this.

  • Notice the shape is more slanted than a cello. The body in general is smaller. The f holes are not f holes. It has frets. It has 6 strings. This instrument is vastly different than a modern day cello. However these proportions are more like most upright basses.
