Thanks for your reply. Not only do I have the LP which you mention, but I was there when it was recorded.
Incidentally, John Helliwell (of the ABS, and later Supertramp) is a personal friend, and HE agrees that their version of 'Gonna fix you good' was crap.

Don't talk daft. Alan Bown Set were a great live band. Try and get the one they did live at the Marquee with them on one side and Jimmy James and the Vagabonds on the other. Get a copy of that album in good condition and it is quite a collector's item.

PLEASE! trya nd hear the original by Little Anthony and the Imperials.
Many US soul/r&B songs were covered by UK groups in the 60's; this is possbly the worst.
