well wht i believe is tht the chimera came from a disease tht spread.how you ask?in the first mission where you learn to duck,you'll find a gate at the far right corner which has a sign saying:"QUARANTINED,anyone leaving the area will be shot."

the chimera was there since the danw of time on that earth until they left to fight wars on other plants having a vast empire now they return to take earth because some alien species unknown killed chimera on eearth and several other planets using a planet shattering weapon (that they didnt use on earth) now in SPOILER SPOILER. resistance too daedlus tries to re create the weapon
