like some random game is gonna come into the wire and pull the thing down u need to have bait on it somehow

It's perfect the way it is. If I were to make is looser it would come undone in the wind or bad weather. This trap would have no problem catching an animal. Remember the loop goes around it's neck then it will naturally struggle.
