Optional Boss: Veigue Lungberg (Tales of Rebirth)
Hard Mode
First Play through
Cheria Solo

This was a challenge request from Math from jtv, who said Cheria was useless. Cheria is hard to use, but certainly not useless (if you seriously consider her useless, check your AI settings. If you are stuck, console my Battle Strategy menu translation video). Veigue is challenging, but not particularly hard once you get used to predicting his attack patterns. First of all, realize that Cheria is a RANGED attacker and a MAGE for the most part, and that getting up close and personal is suicide. To that end, always keep at least 2 back step spaces away from Veigue, otherwise you can get trapped in a combo, and when combined with her weak defense, can result in defeat extremely quickly. I used a gel and hourglass, but seriously, don't complain about it unless you can upload a fight with an equally or better video of you personally doing this on hard and higher (don't try to steal from another person who did this, I already saw how he did this fight in less than 3 minutes, and I did this video without being aware of his first; my fastest time so far is 4"30)

Veigue is fairly easy to stagger; if you hit him while he's walking towards you without a yellow outline, it can usually result in a critical hit and stun him. However, try to keep your distance and don't waste unnecessary attacks. If he blocks, then he will most likely be able to get close to you. Sidestepping should be used, but should not be used more than twice. Mueishou has a wide swing and can deal heavy damage to Cheria. As a rule, do one well timed sidestep followed by 2 back steps. This will allow you to dodge most of his attacks. Once his HP dips below half, he will use his two ougis, Genma Shoureppa and Houryuu Mueiken. Both are predictable (Genma Shoureppa involves him back stepping and Houryuu Mueiken needs a charge up) and can easily be dodged, but very damaging if you get hit. One sidestep and two back steps can dodge both (Houryuu Mueiken may require 2 sidesteps and 3 back steps for safety).

If Veigue goes into Arles Break then he will use his BC, Celsius Caliber, on you if he manages to connect with a hit (which results from a 1HKO). The easiest way to avoid a BC is to use the Hourglass provided to you. This will stall out the time that Arles Break is in effect. However, if you are horrible at dodging, you must defeat Veigue before he rebuilds his Arles Break, or you will lose from his Celsius Caliber.

Even with other characters, Veigue should not be taken lightly. In fact even with Asbel, it is hard to keep Veigue stunned. If you like A artes, do not go above CC3 artes; Veigue will break out at that tier unless he's stunned or you get lucky. Long range moves such as Hadou Meppu (Asbel's B arte) are highly recommended.

  • can i ask you something? how you get new skills? my asbel still has the first 3 seriously

  • @ZeroShikiRev New skills come through title mastery, which you get when you level up or during storyline events. Therefore, you must master titles in order to get new skills. Mastering some titles will also give your attacks extra effects; so titles with same duplicate attacks will add on to the attack effect. Usually these titles come from using the attack 1000+ times. Bottom line is, master titles to get more skills and attacks.

  • I must say this, you're really good with Cheria :D

I already tried this game at my friends home, and I tried to control Cheria, but it's still hard for me to full control her well! However, you're amazing using her :) And yeah, Cheria is not useless!

  • @SummonerPascal Thanks :D. I have to say this though, if you like using Pascal, using Cheria is a very good start, despite people hating her. Mastering Cheria = mastering Pascal since both of them are ranged attackers. Get used to dodging and attacking with Cheria and Pascal will be easier to use since Pascal is slightly slower in recovery time. This video is pretty outdated since I did some new ones with improved tactics since then. Hope you enjoy them as well :D.

  • @asndarknessdragon I have a question regarding your video, how come you make Cheria hit and run, as opposed to getting in close and spamming combos like crazy?

  • @lonerboy18 This video was the first Cheria video I uploaded for one, therefore, I was quite inexperienced compared to the ones I have now. Two, human bosses can't be combo spammed; not back then, not now. While I CAN do so, it'll require Arles Rise. I do have videos of such "combo spam" now, which you can look up in my playlists. Even characters like Asbel have trouble comboing Veigue, however, so its unwise to do so overall.
