A collection of three specially edited programs
for those interested in the genesis of a short
story. This production features Tony Award-winning actor Tom Aldredge as Washington
Irving, the father of the American short story. We
meet him at his estate on the Hudson, where he
outlines the history of short story writing.
Illustrating his remarks are three programs from
the LCA collection: "The Chaparral Prince," "Antaeus" and "The Invisible Boy." "The tone of the Irving comments and the fact that all of the stories deal with children make it a good vehicle for high school literature classes. The technical (especially the settings) and dramatic qualities are very good."—Library Journal. A CBS Library Special. Produced by LCA. 46 minutes, color.
