Sole survivor of the 1981 El Mozote massacre, El Salvador

Event organized by the Center of Social Concern.

"During the civil war in El Salvador there were may civilian massacres, but
none so devastating as that of El Mozote on Dec 11, 1981. Over 900 men,
women and children were killed by soldiers trained at the USA's School of
Assassins. In 1993, the United Nations Truth Commission Report on El
Salvador cited the officers responsible for the worst atrocities committed
during that country's brutal civil war. Over two-thirds of those named
were trained at the SOA.

One woman survived the massacre. She is Rufina Amaya. This evening Rufina
will share her testimony. Joining her will be Alvaro Carias, a social
activist and cultural educator in El Salvador" (http://www.kingscollege.net/cfsc).

@maritzajco Comparto tu sentimiento, Yo nací 3 años después, en un asentamiento de refugiados en Gotera, y que feo se sentía cuando la misma gente de Gotera nos gritaba "Refugiados!!!" como en son de ofensa. en la escuela los niños que vivían en el centro nos marginaban por que eramos de un asentamiento de refugiados nos decían "Champeros" por que vivíamos en casas hechas de lamina y algunas (como la casa en que nací) eran de una especie de plastico verde y carton. No le deseo a nadie vivir así

hubieron muchas, unas fueron documentadas, otras no, esa informacion esta a medias en el Monumento a los Caidos en el parque Cuscatlan en San Salvador, en una esquina olvidada del lugar... lastima.

hace unos pocos años visite El Mozote. Es escalofriante estar ahi y entender la magnitud de esta tragedia. Es una LASTIMA que nos olvidemos de todo esto tan pronto y lo dejemos asi, es una lastima tambien que las dos "grandes figuras" de nuestros tiempos sean tambien un par de los mas grandes criminales, uno mando a matar a Monseñor Romero, y el otro cayo desplomado en Comalapa cuando regresaba de Sur America, ni sus nombres quiero pronunciar, y no es preciso hacerlo. Dios nos bendiga.

Mezote was neutral land, at the time it was very well known that the people that lived in Mezote were neutral in the war. People went there for refuge thinking that this town was safe from the War. My people were killed and raped by American trained SAVAGES.. Let all those innocent people Rest in Peace!!!... God Bless my Land, God Bless my People, God Bless EL SALVADOR!!!!
