March 12, 2009 SAN FRANCISCO Today, San Francisco electro-industrial rock band Marrow announced the winner of their "Remix Us Miserable" contest. Brett Grace, aka audioirony of Canberra, Australia, won the contest with his remix of "There is no Reason" from Marrow's 2008 album "Quiet Desperation.

"Grace clearly understands us [Marrow], as well as his own genre", says David Earl, co-producer of Quiet Desperation. "There were some other great interpretations of our tracks, however, his ability to re-contextualize the original source material was spot on, and thats what makes a good remix otherwise it can just end up being someone elses song with our samples on top.

Grace wins a Marrow Misery Kit, which includes computer gear, their CD and other selected band merchandise, as well as featured placement on the Marrow remix album, due out this summer. Grace's track, along with other select entries, can be heard at Marrow's website, http://www.blissisignorance.com/audio/remix-us-miserable

The remix contest was announced on Earls SFLogicNinja YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/sflogicninja) on January 9th as well as on the Marrow website, http://www.blissisignorance.com Marrow released 13 of the albums 15 tracks under the creative commons license and nearly 1,000 music producers worldwide have downloaded the multi-track files.

This is the latest in Marrows efforts to reach out to their fans online. Their most recent Valentine's Day e-card campaign chalked up 50,000 views in 10 days—despite, or perhaps due to, some controversy around the e-cards.

Marrow has been featured on many pop culture blogs including laughingsquid.com, tinynibbles.com, metafilter.com and others, and was called a "local band, but moreso, an experience," by the San Francisco Chronicle's Violet Blue.

Marrow was also named "Band of the Week" in August 2008 by the Contra Costa Times. Marrows live show has been described as living art.

Marrow has upcoming performances on 4/18 in Oakland, CA, and 5/8 in Livermore, CA

  • Hey thanks for the honorable mention in this announcement. (it's me... Blue Collar).

I was just wondering if the remix CD was ever made and if so, how do I get a copy?

  • Would be nice to see what the contestants were given for the remix. Vocals only, or whole song?

  • not another contest...yet. but as we mention in the vid, we're still accepting submissions to go on the remix CD, and will continue to feature new remixes on our site.

  • is there another remix contest? i didnt know about this one and i'd like to remix

  • that stop remix was definitely pro! would have gone with that myself. the winning mix was good too - very 'glitchy' linkin park. you guys really got some talented submissions, i feel bad i didn't get the time to submit anything.

  • yes that's a LOT better lol thx

  • Why would you be surprised of a electro house remix, when you are an electro industrial band?

I looked at your site and its full of interesting misery.. nice.

  • loved the blooper
