Premadasa Stadium refurbished
August 16, 2010
The R. Premadasa Stadium is geared to glitter Sri Lanka's name during the Cricket World Cup. It has been given a new facelift.
It is the first stadium to come up in Sri Lanka with facilities to play Cricket under floodlights. The massive reconstruction programme has been launched 21 years after its construction. Minister Wimal Weerawansa undertook a visit to the R. Premadasa Stadium to monitor the reconstruction work.
The stadium is being modernized at a cost of 1310 million rupees. Two new buildings with storeys each are also under construction. There will also be media and communication booths. The new lighting network and the electronic scoreboard which is being established in the Stadium have been appreciated by the International Cricket Council. After the modernization, the Stadium will have 10 pitches in conformity to international standards.
