I do soundtracks for films. A cardinal rule today is; music should never 'step on' or 'interfere' with dialog. 'musical stabs' (staccato) should never pierce through when someone is speaking, because it may distract the viewer from what is being said.
This show is classic, because it breaks that rule again and again and gets away with it. I have a feeling that whoever wrote the music, just laid some stuff on an old Moog and said: "Hey man just go with it!"

The Sci-Fi channel ran a new version a few years ago. It was not as good as this original program.
