Sometimes this form of Teosinte like plant will come out of the gene pool, ive heard explanations of why from botanists. I think our early farmers were very perceptive to have created such a food that today is among the most important. Our early true 'scientist' did not change anything within the genes
so it was not 'engineering' only a carefull selection through close observation and i believe intuitive thought.
What reserchers today are doing is crossing the species bounderies from species that normaly wouldnt breed, createing toxins or allergines in the food.
When you add in the chemicals going into the water along with the effect on health it doesnt make good sense.
I think the corn remembers where it comes from and it sets like that to give the next seed more strength.

mark that is so cool! I was thinking on plants how do they do it.. the mind blowing things of evolution. I know lots of really important helper plants for us I bet they co-evolved with us along with selective breeding. but like the way some plants attract specific bugs is beyond imagination, mine at least =) some of it could be explained as co-evolution but what about that plant that smells like rotting meat to attract bugs who lay eggs there? how they figure out what that smells like!!
