In 1973 he made his début at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona in Mascagni's Iris, followed by appearances in major international opera houses, including La Scala, Milan, the Arena in Verona, the Opéra in Paris, London's Covent Garden, the Vienna State Opera and the New York Metropolitan Opera. His career has taken him to leading music centres throughout the world, in collaboration with the most distinguished singers and directors, with a repertoire of some 32 principal tenor rôles, particularly in operas by Verdi and Puccini. He has made many recordings and his interpretation of the role of Calaf in Turandot has won particular acclaim.
