Colbie Caillat New Album Breakthrough

Miley Cyrus is getting real run for her money on this week's Billboard countdown-we've got the scoop on her BIG competition right now!

Welcome back to ClevverTV's new music update. I'm Joslyn Davis in the studio and today we're talking about singer, songwriter, and guitarist Colbie Caillat. Colbie made her big debut back in 2007. Songs like "Realize" and "The Little Things" put her on the music map. But her duet "Lucky" with Jason Mraz made her a household name. So it's not too surprising that fans were eagerly anticipating her second release AND they wondered if she could beat the curse of the sophomore slump on this album.

Well, lucky for Colbie and her listeners, her new LP "Breakthrough" hit the US Charts at number one on the Billboard countdown. She was of course followed by Miley Cyrus who came in third place in her first week out with her EP.

Colbie worked with legendary music insiders like American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi, as well as Jason Reeves and guitarist David Becker. After suffering from a bout of writers block during the making of "Breakthrough," Colbie headed to Hawaii for three weeks to hang out at a beach house, and she walked away with several songs about love and break-ups.

Colbie, who is a Mailbu beach native, has that whole surfer girl musician vibe down to a tee. But according to Kara Dioguardi, Colbie is so much more than that. She says that there's a "melancholy spirit that runs through her vocals. A sort of thick, caramel quality." The fact that she's beautiful is just icing on the cake.

Colbie also worked with her Father, Ken on this new release. He's best known for his studio work with legendary group Fleetwood Mac. So did he enjoy working with his talented daughter? Well he said that it was kind of strange at first, but he approached the collabo as her father-someone who wanted the very best for her. The outcome is obviously great.

Her first single "Fallin for You" is getting radio play across the country and Colbie is gearing up for a big US tour which starts this month. And one more interesting tid bit about the songstress---she would like to work with a hip hop artist in the near future-that could be interesting-what do you guys think?

LP is basically a shortened version for full length album-so like 12 or 13 songs or even more. AN EP is a mini-album-like a taste test of 4-6 songs!
