Founded in 1854, Mason & Hamlin is one of America's oldest and most respected piano manufacturers. Of the hundreds of American piano companies that flourished in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Mason & Hamlin is one of only a handful that survive today.

Mason & Hamlin is headquartered in Haverhill, Massachusetts, not far from its original location in Boston, the birthplace of American piano design and manufacturing.

The Mason & Hamlin History

In 1854, two brilliant idealists, Henry Mason and Emmons Hamlin, founded the Mason & Hamlin Company in Boston, Massachusetts. Although their backgrounds and interests were very different, the two men shared a common goal: to make the world's finest musical instruments.

Henry Mason was a pianist and his brother, William, was one of America's foremost classical pianists and composers.

Their father was the famous composer and educator Lowell Mason, a visionary who was the first to bring music into the public schools of America. He was also known throughout the world as a composer and publisher of hymns, and is often called the "father of American church music."

Emmons Hamlin was not a musician, but instead a brilliant mechanic and inventor. While working at the melodeon factory of George A. Price and Company of Buffalo, Hamlin invented a way to voice organ reeds, so that they could imitate the sound of a clarinet, violin or other musical instruments.

On the Golden Age of the Piano, Mason & Hamlin was at the forefront and great virtuosos, pianists and composer, including Sergei Rachmaninoff, Harold Bauer, Maurice Ravel, Yehudi Menuhin, Pablo Casals, Anna Case, and many other best piano players endorsed Mason & Hamlin pianos.

Composer Maurice Ravel chose Mason & Hamlin pianos for his first tour of America. When I finally feel I have mastered the piano to a good enough degree, I'm saving up and owning a Mason & Hamlin.

Just like an A. Lange & Sohne timepiece, it is something every man has a right to enjoy and own. Some things, like a Mason & Hamlin isn't expensive for the sake of it, but rather, due to the extraordinary craftsmanship you are buying. Plus, it'll last centuries of use.

I have been a rebuilder and technician since 1964. The Mason and Hamlin has been the piano of choice since I started playing. The Mason & Hamlins I have rebuilt have all been

a quailty and design I feel is not matched in the world. The new Mason& Hamlin piano are

in keeping with the design and quailty of their past history. I sewrvice Mason & Hamlin pianos

and I have not serviced or tuned and piano that compairs.

I would have to agree that this is THE finest sounding piano I've ever heard. I thought I was in love with my 9'1" Kawai one of a kind, but I'm not so sure any more. I think the love affair is over!
