Magnificent set, I only have the 65 and boy did it cost me a arm and a leg.

Nice set of 2-cent pieces! I think the mintage was by far the highest on the 1864 and '65--they seem to be the most common. I like the odd-denomination coins, too. I'm a big fan of the silver and copper-nickel 3-cent pieces--a lot of those are pretty reasonably priced and easy to find as well.

how much would it cost to buy a set?

Not sure. You would have to check a price guide for current pricing. Coin prices fluctuate and it depends on supply and demand. I think you would have a harder time just finding some of the coins.

hi, i am a big metal detector. today i found a 1872 2 cent piece. the downfall is it was about 6 inches down and is currently tarnished green. the coin is in about the same condition as your 72 but just green. please let me know what i can do about this if anything!!!

The best thing to do is to take it to a reputable coin dealer and have them deal with the problem. Cleaning coins should not be done unless the object will further damage the coin. Coins are usually best left in the most original state found.

QUESTION: I was in an argument on youtube with someone. They claimed that the 1864 two cent piece was issued by a "private bank" and not the federal government. I know it was designed by the US MINT. If it was minted by a private bank, it's news to me. Can any experts clear this up for me?

Far as I know, all two cent pieces were made and issued by the US Mint on the date of the coin.
