Nicole Young @ Taste of the Arts (low light)

Nicole Young demonstrates an energetic routine at Friday night's Taste of the Arts event. Her music selection was kickin'. It pulls you in and makes you want to dance (luckily for everyone, I refrained). Nicole is one of the talented artists from Samadhi Hawaii.

I imagine high energy routines are very challenging, when performed on silk. Unlike an anchored pole, free-hanging silk gives, preventing Nicole from leveraging against it. Every move shakes her body and sends vibrations through the silk, throwing off her balance. The fast tempo gives her little time to grab, twirl, and unwind the tissu. She's definitely pushing the envelope.

Some of my favorite moves come at 2:02 and 2:44 when she smoothly flips her self upright, by controlling her center of gravity. She times her roll at 1:20 to match the bell perfectly. She makes everyone cheer at 2:24 when she does The Robot.
