What I love about this movie is the amount of dancing we get to watch.

What really got to me was when Maureen pointed out that if she were happy she wouldn't be throwing up, and all her mom could think to say was "you watch your weight, there's nothing wrong with that." No. That's not watching your weight. Dieting and exercising is watching your weight, not yakking up every meal.

@dosentmeanforever17 - I don't think it was so much that she "let her daughter go" as it was that she had no choice. Dancing was mom's dream and never once did she stop to ask what it was her daughter wanted. I think the mother was just too shocked there at the end to go chasing after her. I don't imagine that would be the end of things though. I'm sure mom would try to talk her daughter back into dancing a few more times before giving up completely.

I don't think the mom is all that bad. I think she truly wanted what she thought was best for Maureen. She should've seen the signs of her being unhappy, but at least she let her go in the end.
